Frank H. Coenen Co.
Alhambra, California

Frank H. Coenen immigrated from Denmark, settled in Alhambra, California where his silver and saddlemaking business flourished from 1906 through the "Golden Screen Era" until his death, October 11, 1964 in Hemet, California.

The Post Advocate once stated that Mr. Coenen was "one of the few remaining master saddlemakers in the United States".  During the 1939 World's Fair in New York he exhibited a $20,000.00 silver and gold mounted saddle, depicting the historical development of the Santa Fe trail, from Pony Express riders, to the laying of the first rails on down to the modern streamliner.  This saddle won a gold medal at the World's Fair, and was on display at the Los Angeles museum in the 1960's.

Silver saddles, chaps, bridles, bits, and spurs were much in demand from Mr. Coenen all over the United States.  Many of his saddles found their way into the Pasadena Rose Parade, New Orleans Spring Fiesta Horse Show, movies of the Golden Screen Era, and many other horse shows and parades throughout the United States.  The shop no longer exits.
